King Kashyapa's Sigiriya



Sigiriya is an ancient stone fort located in the Matale district of Sri Lanka, also known as the Lion Rock. It is one of the most historic places in the country and is known for its impressive combination of natural beauty, archaeological significance and stunning ancient architecture.

History:


King Dhatusena, the father of King Kasyapa, was a great Sinhalese king who ruled from 455 to 473 AD with Anuradhapura as the last city and can be called the first king of the Mauryan dynasty in Sri Lanka.

King Dhatusena has succeeded in reuniting the whole of Sri Lanka after 26 years of defeating the South Indian invaders. Created by him Yodha Lake, Kandy Lake, Mora Lake, Kaudulla Lake, Alle Lake, Ampara Lake, Ekgal Aru Lake, Irakkamam Lake, Kondavattawan Lake, Navakiriaru Lake, Debara Lake, Ridhiyagama Lake, Balalu Lake, Kandalam Lake, Iratuadu Lake, Iratuadu Lake, Akkarayankulam Lake, Pavikulam Lake, Unnicchaya Lake, Rukum Lake, Pimburatta Lake etc. are mentioned in the “Mahavanshaya” as a large irrigation industry.
